In the Press: YA Book Club in the Robinvale Sentinel
Our recent book club gathering at Robinvale Library has had a write up on page 6 of the Robinvale Sentinel on Thursday 1st of June edition.
The text from the article (pictured above) reads as follows:
“YA CRIME BOOKCLUB
Castlemaine-based Young Adult author Ellie Marney Visited Robinvale by Zoom on Monday 22nd May to chat to people about her crime novel Every Breath. A group of readers of diverse ages gathered at the Community Library in George Street to enjoy snacks and swap notes about Marney's book.
Timed to coincide with Sherlock Holmes Day, on the birthday of author Arthur Conan Doyle, this session touched on Marney's abiding interest in Holmes and his various afterlives. Every Breath features a girl named Rachel Watts, who moves from Five Mile near Ouyen to Melbourne, where she starts investigating a crime with her best friend Mycroft. The three books reimagine the Sherlock and Watson characters and their blossoming relationship.
Marney told the audience that she had spent time fruit picking in Robinvale as a young person and came back to the Mallee to research the Every series, Later this year she is looking forward to visiting Mildura and reacquainting herself with the area.
Brigid Magner and Emily Potter of the Australian Research Council funded Reading In the Mallee project and are planning another bookclub event on 16 November, centred around Bren McDibble's 'How to Bee', which is suitable for people 8 years and above.
